We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist with leadership capabilities for a full-time fixed term parental leave position for one year starting mid to late November 2019.

Our Allied Health (Adults) Department is a cluster of 5 different services – Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Therapy, Nutrition and Dietetics and Social Work services, employing nearly 200 staff and strives to be a hub of innovation and service excellence. The role
This Clinical Lead role provides both clinical and operational leadership to the occupational therapy and therapy assistant teams. You will work closely with the Practice Supervisors and your teams will cover all Adult inpatient services at Auckland City Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for somebody who wants to develop their operational and leadership skills whilst also maintaining a clinical practise.

Reporting to the Service Clinical Director, Allied Health Services, you will be responsible for the clinical leadership, service development, quality, staff and patient safety relating to the provision of Occupational Therapy services. You will also have oversight of the rehabilitation equipment portfolio and support three equipment co-ordinators. This is a highly collaborative position and is well supported by the other Clinical Leads and Service Clinical Director. As a service we encourage innovative approaches that will take our department and our business management to the next level of performance and enhance the development of services and staff. The ability to bring together, balance and deliver the combined demands of quality, operations and business management through outstanding leadership and delegation is essential. You will be a valued member of the Allied Health Leadership Team and encouraged and supported to develop your potential, including your leadership and management skills.

  • Acute Medical
  • Cancer and Blood
  • Cardiac Specialities
  • Emergency, Trauma and Intensive Care
  • General Medicine
  • Geriatrics – rehabilitation and reablement
  • Neurology, Stroke and NeurosurgerySurgery, Transplants and ORL

Paediatric departments for all of the above specialities are based in Starship Children’s Hospital and are not a part of this role.

About you
As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Have registration as an Occupational Therapist with Occupational Therapy
  • Board of NZ with current APC
  • Experience in a leadership role within a large hospital setting
  • Commitment to achieving excellent clinical and business outcomes based on quality service delivery and outstanding and empathetic patient care
  • Ability to live and lead the ADHB values of Welcome, Respect, Together and Aim High.
  • Confidence to work effectively within the extended multidisciplinary team
    Excellent clinical decision-making skills and use of evidence-based practice
  • A flexible, pro-active and can-do approach with experience supporting staff and students
  • Excellent organisational, communication and inter-personal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously in a bicultural environment and knowledge of the acute hospital environment
