We have a variety of clinical roles which role is to undertake mental health assessments, using a therapeutic approach, identifying and delivering supportive brief interventions to individual who may be within the prison environment or externally with probations.

The roles:

We have the following opportunities for Mental Health Clinicians in the following areas/facilities:
•Auckland Men’s Prison
•Northland Correctional Facility
•Hamilton Community Probation
•Mangere Probation
•West Auckland Probation

About the roles


These are new and innovative roles based within the prison services. You will use your clinical skills to assess, identify supportive interventions and undertake care planning for those experiencing mental health needs. You will work in collaboration with corrections staff to develop a plan which will support individuals with their release and successful reintegration into the community.


This role involves working as a Registered Health Professional in community probation services. Your role will focus on supporting people in the community by providing mental health assessment, intervention and assistance/advice with referrals to other agencies. Working in partnership with individuals and probation staff you will develop a tailored individualised plan.

All roles are permanent, full-time with hours of work being Monday – Friday between the hours of 8am – 6pm.

In order to be considered for this role, it is essential that you meet the following requirements:
•Be eligible to work in New Zealand
•Registered with a professional body covered by HPCA 2003 Act. A RN, OT or Clinical Psychologist/Psychologist
•Be a Registered Social Worker with the Social Work Registration Board (SWRB)
•Hold a relevant health care degree level qualification
•Hold a current APC
•Demonstrate knowledge and ability to undertake a comprehensive mental health assessment
•Demonstrate ability to undertake evidence based interventions
•Health sector /social services or related experience, particularly with individuals/family in a complex needs environment
