The role involves working collaboratively with a team of professionals – including speech and language therapists, early intervention teachers, physiotherapists, music and play specialists – alongside children 0-6 and their parents/whānau.
Role: Where you fit in
- as part of an interdisciplinary team, assess and evaluate the sensory processing, self-regulation, motor planning, development, environment, safety and learning needs of the child.
- facilitate the integration of the child’s sensory processing ability to maintain an appropriate level of alertness in order to develop engagement and interaction, access and use play equipment, focus and attend for functional communication and learning, and to develop independence in self-care skills such as dressing, eating and toileting.
- This may involve ‘hands on’ therapy with each child and/or through modelling, demonstration, explaining and coaching parents on how to enhance their child’s sensory processing, regulation states, and motor development through play, specific activities, prescription of suitable equipment and modifying the environment.
