Our Residential Services
Te Whare Hīnātore & James Liston Hostel
Te Whare Hīnātore and James Liston Hostel are part of the Residential Services of Auckland City Mission. Te Whare Hīnātore aims to assist wāhine (or those who identify as wāhine) that are experiencing homelessness and/or are rough sleeping, to improve their social and psychological wellbeing through providing a quality kaupapa Māori service within a cohesive therapeutic, and ethical framework. The recently refurbished James Liston Hostel is a transitional housing hostel operating 24/7 that supports up to 50 clients who previously were homeless/rough sleeping. The service provides a safe base from which support is offered to access services and aid transition into permanent housing situations.
The Role
Kaiwhakaora Ngangahau /Occupational Therapist
This is a unique opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to make a significant contribution. You will, in conjunction with our dedicated Residential Services Teams, develop and deliver meaningful activities that engage our resident whānau with their community to a standard that ensures services are compliant with professional standards and professional code of ethics.
Day to day, this key role involves supporting our residents with a kaupapa Māori and trauma informed focus including conducting comprehensive assessments, developing goal-centred treatment plans, active encouragement and support when reviewing progress and applying Te Ao Māori practice models. The role requires strong person-centred practice, a strengths-based approach, and the ability to work as part of a resilient team.
About You
- You are a NZ Registered Occupational Therapist with current annual practicing certificate
- Have experience working as an Occupational Therapist providing Vocational Rehabilitation and developing extensive treatment plans
- Have proven ability working with people with a range of long-term conditions and intellectual impairments
- Have excellent clinical reasoning and the ability to work both autonomously and as effective team player
- Have an understanding and commitment to Tikanga Maori
- Have fantastic relationship building and engagement skills, and established networks in the community
