About the role
Are you an Occupational Therapist with a passion for Stroke Rehabilitation and innovation in Community Services?
This is a fantastic opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join Te Herenga Tangata, our rapidly developing Community Older Persons, Rehabilitation and Allied Health team. This vacancy becomes available very infrequently and has occurred as we plan our Early Supported Discharge service for people post stroke.
The position currently involves working with and interdisciplinary team (IDT) of Allied Health, Nursing and Medical staff to provide rehabilitation for people referred both from inpatient services and community providers.
The majority of the work is, however, neuro rehabilitation with people leaving hospital following a stroke and this position is likely to evolve as our planning for and ESD moves forward. You will need to bring significant experience in stroke and community based rehabilitation, but also be prepared to work in an IDT way, participating in cross skilling as the team evolves.
We are planning to grow our valuable Assistant workforce and will also be looking for someone keen to participate in supporting their training and development.
In order to meet the needs of our clients, applicants should also be prepared to participate in a weekend roster should the future direction of our service developments require this.
Skills and experience
You will have excellent communication and time-management skills, enjoy working within a team, and be able to develop positive relationships with a variety of hospital based and primary care professionals.
As the successful candidate you will be required to be an NZ Registered Occupational Therapist with a current APC and driver’s licence. You will find professional support from your Occupational Therapy colleagues within the team and from the Professional Leader for Occupational Therapy.
We are looking to develop a culturally diverse team and strongly encourage applicants of all backgrounds with the right skills to consider applying. We will be continuing to develop the way we work with Maori and Pacific people and would value more applicants from these communities.
We offer a supportive workplace culture with a commitment to your on-going professional development. This includes; a comprehensive orientation programme, training and study opportunities, and peer support.
Staff benefits include our newly developed staff ‘Wellness Program’, discounts from many companies throughout the region, and use of our onsite gym.
