  • Exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join the Forensic Mental Health service based at Wakari Hospital
  • No long commute, free on-site parking and a good work life balance, it all starts here

About the team

Based at Wakari Hospital high on the hills overlooking Dunedin, Ward 9A (Forensic unit) is a medium secure environment where you’ll be working predominantly with patients referred from the courts and/or prison setting for assessment and/or treatment. Every day you get to work with and alongside a dynamic and committed multi-disciplinary team.

About the role

In this position you will initially work on Ward 9A predominantly with patients, referred for assessment and/or treatment, from the courts and/or prison setting. Increasingly we provide a rehabilitative role in assisting patients with complex needs to reintegrate into their community. Working with patients in this phase of their journey is an important component of the Occupational Therapists role. There may also be provision in the future for the Occupational Therapists role to extend to working with patients living in the community.

Working as the Occupational Therapist you will provide discipline specific assessment, treatment and interventions to patients and participate actively in the Therapeutic Programme. You will also actively contribute as a functional and committed member of the multi-disciplinary team.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist, with previous experience of working in the mental health sector. You will have well developed and proven group facilitation and communication skills and be an effective time-manager.

We provide a thorough orientation to the role and will support your ongoing professional development needs.

If you want to make a difference, hold a positive attitude and a strong sense of self-awareness and personal resilience we encourage you to apply for this position.

To practice in a hospital setting within New Zealand, you must be registered with the Occupational Therapists Board of New Zealand and hold an Annual Practicing Certificate. You must also be eligible to work in New Zealand.
